The budgies we love and care for
keeping budgies from 2004
Where we found them
Our budgies have been a part of the pet family for over 20 years, when Paul built and aviary in the garden for a few budgies that grew into a flock. Each year they had many babies some that had to be rescued and brought indoors to be hand reared.
Care
Budgies are reletively hardy little birds, If you decided to keeep on keep the following in mind. The cage should ideally be located in a spot with plenty of natural light but out of direct sunlight or drafts (this is really important as wind will not harm them but a draft could kill them). Clean your budgie’s cage at least once a week and be sure to scrub the bottom tray, food and water bowls, and toys with hot soapy water (remember to rinse well).
Budgies eat seed, vegetables and fruit (carrots are ours favourite).
Budgies are intelligent and active little critters that need to keep their minds active, be sure to provide your budgie with a selection of bird-specific toys, look for swings, and chew toys in order and avoid potentially toxic materials or choking hazards. A good rule of thumb when it comes to choosing toys is that if you wouldn’t want a child to chew on it, don’t give it to your pet budgie.
